The Council of Bishops of The United Methodist Church has condemned the ongoing violence in the Middle East and has called for prayer and action. In a statement released Oct. 9, COB President Thomas J. Bickerton urged all United Methodists to renew a deepened commitment to pray for those who have been injured, abducted or killed, and to deepen our prayers for those who have suddenly lost a loved one.

October is Pastor Appreciation Month. It is a time to say thank you to the people who may be most visible as preachers and teachers, but who, in reality, are on-call 24/7, standing with congregants. Here are some ways to extend appreciation to pastors or other clergy.
Nov. 1 is All Saints Day, a sometimes-overlooked holy day in United Methodist congregations. John Wesley as well his brother Charles loved All Saints Day and used it as an opportunity to give thanks for all the Christians who came before us.
